Spencer Knight has signed a 3-year extension with the Blackhawks with a $5.83 million salary cap hit. “After joining the team in March, Spencer quickly cemented himself as a crucial piece of our future,” said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. “A talented, young goaltender, he brings athleticism, sound positioning and a calm demeanor to his game, and we’re excited to watch Spencer continue to flourish in Chicago over the next four seasons.”

Spencer Knight was acquired from the Panthers after trading Seth Jones at the trade deadline last season. In the 15 games he played for the Blackhawks last season, he average a goals against average (GAA) of 3.12 and a save percentage of .896. At face value, these stats are not impressive, but we have to look at the context. He is coming into a rebuilding team with a struggling defense and showed how much he can stand on his own to help carry the team.
